Edmund Hastings - head instructor
MCI aspirant, CWI, CWDI, MLS and RCI qualified, Edmund has been a keen mountaineer as long as he can remember, and is passionate about sharing his knowledge with others. A fan of all things rocky, he is equally at home on trad, sport, winter and ice climbing, and always dreaming of the next trip. Through his work with young climbers and as a Duke of Edinburgh’s award assessor, he is constantly striving to nurture the next generation of outdoorsmen and women. His work takes him all over the UK, and he has also led trips abroad to the Azores, Corsica and Botswana.
Ever since putting hand to rock for the first time 6 years ago, Joey's main passion has been climbing, and has never looked back since. With a CWI, CWDI, RCI and Foundation coach award he loves to impart his wealth of knowledge as one of the core instructors at Mile End Climbing Wall, taking people out for the first time or coaching them towards long term goals. His favourite places to climb include: Peak District gritstone on a sunny summer's evening; the limestone sea cliffs of Portland, Swanage or the Gower; the beautiful sandstone boulders in the forest of Fontainebleau and remote Scottish Gneiss in the Highlands.
Trad, sport, bouldering, mountaineering, if there is rock involved he's there.
An MCI holder and a full AMI member, Justin is the founder of Climb South West, and has over 20 years' experience climbing, exploring and working in mountain training. He is passionate about the outdoors, and his enthusiasm for adventure, exploration and challenge continues to drive him through every aspect of his life. His experience includes work with outdoors centres, managing climbing walls, leading expeditions, programme-managing college courses, training and assessing for Mountain Training England and leading climbing holidays in the UK and Europe. Justin's wider interests include kayaking and running ultra marathons.
